RESPIRATOR FIT TESTING

Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) became a major Health and Safety focus in the building and construction industry during 2019, due to multiple deaths linked to silicosis.

In July 2020, The Australian government halved the RCS exposure standard. You can find out more about the reduced standard here.

One of the most cost-effective ways to reduce the risk of exposure of airborne contaminants such as RCS is to ensure workers are wearing the correctly fitted Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE).

All respirator fit tests performed by QSolutions Group are carried out using a quantitative method. This method utilises a calibrated PortaCount machine to conduct measurements on a respirator’s fit factor rating. This method is more reliable and accurate than the qualitative method which relies on the user detecting leakage through the seal using a bitter or sweet taste.

QSolutions Group offers various options in regard to respirator fit testing to suit your company’s requirements. Each test can be undertaken on a disposable or reusable respirator and includes:

  • A Respirator Fit Test Certificate for each person

  • A Respirator Fitting Test Report for each person

  • A pocket-sized Respirator Fit Testing Card for each person to show the results

We offer respirator kits contained in a hard clip lock container including the mask of your choice, filters, cleaning wipes and an instruction booklet on how to maintain and care for your mask.

QSolutions Group has set up a testing room at our office, or we can travel to your worksite. This ensures that the testing minimises any impact on your working day by being flexible to suit your requirements.

Additionally, QSolutions Group can arrange for one of our consultants to attend your business to deliver a toolbox talk to your workers. This is to ensure a full understanding of RCS and the importance of RPE.
